Last year, Lance Scott Walker and bestie Peter Beste published Houston Rap Tapes an oral history of the abundant rap scene in Houston. As Lance says, the book is more than the music. It’s about the neighborhood and the vast city limits of Houston that shaped it.
Lance, who is originally from Galveston, Texas, immersed himself in the Houston rap scene for years -- learning all about DJ Screw, Pimp C, and Swishahouse. And while the rap scene gained mainstream prominence in 2005, Walker realized the local music scene is an entirely self sufficient economy -- one that can thrive whether the national spotlight is on or off the city. H-TOWN BITCHES.
